1. Hiking
As one of the most popular things to do in the Smoky Mountains, hiking is an activity anyone can enjoy! There are beginner trails for novice hikers, moderate trails, and difficult hikes for experts who want to push themselves. With over 100 trails, you have so many hikes to choose from. If you want to see wildflowers in the spring, waterfalls, or appalachian history, there are trails you can hike. You will want to ensure you are fully prepared before you go on a hike with all the equipment and snacks you will need.
2. Ziplining
If you love adventure and the feeling of air rushing past you as you glide down a mountain, then you have to go ziplining while you’re in town! You’ll have a variety of courses to choose from at Smoky Mountain Ziplines, and it is centrally located in Pigeon Forge. Located in Sevierville, Adventure Park Ziplines has lines ranging from 200 feet to 2,500 feet. If you want to zipline with an amazing view of the Smokies, go to CLIMB Works in Gatlinburg. Their new line allows you to ride side by side with a friend or family member!
3. Rafting
On hot summer days, you’ll want to find a way to cool down. Why not cool off and have a blast white water rafting? No matter where you decide to go, you will be rafting on the Little Pigeon River. It has class one through four rapids that will thrill you all the way down the river! You’ll be able to choose between upper river and lower river rides, each offering fun adventures! Rafting in the Smokies has a ton of other activities to do on site in addition to rafting. If you want to stay on the water but don’t want to go rafting, Smoky Mountain Outdoors has inflatable kayaking that would be a ton of fun!
4. Tubing
If you want to be out on the water as one of the things to do in the Smoky Mountains, you should go tubing at Little River Tubing. Located in Townsend TN, you won’t be able to miss the River Rat Outpost with all the yellow inner tubes. They will take you to the upper river or lower river section, but the lower section is typically for small children around 2 years old. When you go on the upper river, they have a van that takes you to the starting point! Everyone will have a blast floating down the river!
5. Biking
Biking is a great way to get exercise and see the scenic views outdoors! Areas where biking is allowed includes Greenbrier and Tremont. You can also bike around Cades Cove Loop Road. Although cars are allowed on the road, cars are prohibited from May to September on Wednesday and Saturday mornings until 10:00 a.m. so bikers have opportunity to ride safely.
