One of the best parts of taking a vacation to Gatlinburg is getting outside to enjoy the spectacular scenery and fresh mountain air! While you may be familiar with the hiking opportunities at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, you might not know that Gatlinburg is home to some lovely parks where you can hike and take advantage of other recreational opportunities! Here are 3 beautiful parks in Gatlinburg where you can enjoy the great outdoors:

1. Mynatt Park

If you need a break from the hustle and bustle of downtown Gatlinburg, head over to Mynatt Park on Asbury Lane! Although this gorgeous little park is conveniently close to all of the Gatlinburg attractions, it is somewhat of a hidden gem because most visitors don’t even know about it! This makes Mynatt Park the perfect place to have a peaceful lunch by the river or to simply relax while listening to the delightful sounds of nature. There are plenty of outdoor facilities which are rarely crowded, such as tennis courts, basketball courts and a baseball field. If you are visiting with children, your kids will love burning off energy on the playground or playing in the creek that runs through the park!

2. Herbert Holt Park

Herbert Holt Park is another one of the wonderful parks in Gatlinburg where you can enjoy walking trails and lots of other fun activities! This park is situated just off the Parkway on North Park Lane, which is off to the right when you drive into downtown Gatlinburg. While this is a smaller park, there are a surprising number of things to do, including horseshoe pits, a playground area and a children’s fishing stream. An interesting fact is that Herbert Holt Park contains the only municipal trout farm in Tennessee and helps to keep the rainbow trout population alive. The park is also home to the only handicap and wheelchair accessible fishing pier in the Gatlinburg area, which is restricted to children and physically handicapped people of all ages.

3. Mills Park

For a quiet oasis from the busy streets of Gatlinburg, check out Mills Park on Mills Park Road just off Highway 321. This is the perfect park to unwind and get some exercise, as it features a 400-meter track, a jogging trail, a basketball court and sports fields. Mills Park also offers an amazing 9-hole disc golf course, so be sure to bring along a frisbee on your vacation! One of the top features at the park is the new playground facilities that provide the opportunity for kids to swing, crawl and climb through all types of equipment! There are plenty of picnic tables, charcoal grills and restrooms available for your convenience, so bring along some food to enjoy an afternoon picnic while being surrounded by the beauty of the forest!
