4 Rainy Day Activities for a Vacation at Our Gatlinburg Cabin Resort

Rainy day boots and umbrella.

Blessed with incredible natural beauty, the Gatlinburg area is known as a hub for outdoor vacation fun. Sometimes, however, the weather just doesn’t cooperate with your plans to explore the national park or visit an attraction. If it rains during your trip, there is no need to panic! Gatlinburg offers a number of great indoor activities that you are sure to love. Here are a few of our favorite things to do when it rains at our Gatlinburg cabin resort.

1. Visit Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies

Heading to the aquarium is the perfect rainy day activity! Located just a short drive away from Chalet Village, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is ranked among the top 10 aquariums in the United States by TripAdvisor. With over 10,000 sea creatures to admire, it’s easy to spend the whole afternoon learning about life under the ocean. Highlights of the aquarium include the Shark Lagoon, which features a moving sidewalk in an underwater tunnel, and the Penguin Playhouse, the enclosure for some adorable African penguins. For an additional fee, you can even get up close and personal with a penguin for a special encounter and photo shoot!

2. Watch a Movie at Your Cabin

Chalet Village offers a number of excellent Gatlinburg cabins with theater rooms, so you can spend part of your rainy day watching a movie. Each theater room varies, as all of our cabins are totally unique, but you can expect a big screen and comfy seating. For the latest releases, you can swing by a Redbox DVD rental kiosk at either the Walgreens at 811 Parkway or the Food City at 1219 E Parkway in Gatlinburg. If you have your heart set on watching an old favorite, be sure to bring your DVD collection from home to our Gatlinburg cabin resort!

3. Check Out Sugarlands Visitor Center

Even though you won’t be able to go hiking in the rain, you can still enjoy the Great Smoky Mountains National Park by visiting Sugarlands Visitor Center. Open every day of the year except Christmas, the visitor center features a small museum and a 30 minute video about the national park. Sugarlands is totally free to visit, but you will have the opportunity to support the park by making a purchase in the retail area. The visitor center is a great place to pick up souvenirs, including shirts, books, postcards, and other Smoky Mountain memorabilia.

4. Play a Game of Pool

We offer a great selection of Gatlinburg cabins with pool tables at Chalet Village. Playing a round of pool or organizing a tournament with your guests is a great way to spend a rainy day in your cabin. If you want to add some stakes to your friendly game of billiards, let the winner choose where you have dinner that evening!
