There is certainly no shortage of things to see and do in Gatlinburg, TN! With so much travel information online and in guide books, it can be a bit overwhelming to research the area. Chalet Village has been in Gatlinburg since 1972, so we know a thing or two about planning a vacation here! To help you make the most of your getaway, we have put together five insider tips for a retreat at our Gatlinburg vacation homes.

1. Have Breakfast at the Mountain Lodge Restaurant

Popular with locals and vacationers alike, the Mountain Lodge Restaurant is one of the best breakfast places in Gatlinburg. Located on East Parkway, this spacious lodge serves up all of your morning time favorites, including freshly baked cinnamon rolls, biscuits and gravy, eggs benedict, and french toast. Breakfast is served all day, and lunch options are also available from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., when the restaurant closes. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous, so be sure to come hungry!

2. Spend an Afternoon at the Clubhouse

When you stay at our Gatlinburg vacation homes you will have access to three excellent clubhouses at our resort. With swimming pools, tennis courts, shuffleboard, foosball, ping pong, lawn games, board games, and other great activities, it’s easy to spend an afternoon right in our cabin community. Taking advantage of our resort amenities is great for a day when you don’t feel like driving or spending money.

3. Visit the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum

The Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum is one of the most unique attractions in Gatlinburg. This one of a kind museum is home to over 20,000 pairs of salt and pepper shakers! The museum’s shakers come in endless varieties, with pairs designed to look like cartoon characters, historical figures, animals, aliens, automobiles, houses, and virtually anything else you can think of. Admission is only $3.00 per person, and that money is applied to any purchase in the museum’s gift shop. After seeing so many unusual salt and pepper shakers, you’ll definitely want to buy a new pair for your house!

4. Hike to the Walker Sisters Cabin

In the Little Greenbrier section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, you will find the Walker Sisters Place. This historic cabin was built in the 1840s, but the Walker Sisters lived in the humble property until the 1960s. Even though the national park took over all the land surrounding the cabin in 1940, the sisters refused to give up their traditional way of life and stayed in their homestead until they passed away.

To get to the cabin, hike the Metcalf Bottoms trail for 0.7 miles until you reach the Little Greenbrier Schoolhouse, which was built by the Walker Sisters’ father. Then, continue on the trail for 0.6 miles, where the path crosses a footbridge. After 1.1 miles, you will find the 0.2 mile side trail that leads to the Walker Sisters Place.
